CONGREGATION OF TEMPLE SINAI, INC PHOTOGRAPHIC AND VIDEO IMAGES POLICY & GUIDELINES

Policy

Congregation of Temple Sinai, Inc (“Temple Sinai” or “Temple”) of South Burlington, VT uses photographs and videos taken at its various activities, events, and programs in Temple-produced materials including, but not limited to, bulletins, posters, brochures, newsletters, other printed materials, audio/visual presentations, the Temple website, and Facebook and/or other Temple-produced communication channels. Temple Sinai does this to enhance the quality of information that we provide to our members, visitors, and our community, as well as to celebrate faith, community connection, and fun shared by the Congregation and visitors who attend Sinai activities. However, Temple Sinai also recognizes that privacy and security are important. The following guidelines have been adopted as a way of balancing the goal of providing quality information to our community with the concerns of privacy and security:

1.     Images of adults engaged in congregation activities and used to report on congregational events may be used without seeking permission.

a.     Temple Sinai will attempt to let the people being photographed know that these shots may be used in communication.

b.     At any event, an individual, who does not wish to be photographed is free to approach photographers of the event and make that request.

c.      Persons wishing to not be included in any photographs or video ever can email their request administrator@templesinaivt.org and Temple Sinai will do its best to honor it.

2.     Our children need additional protection. Therefore, we will only post pictures of children from behind so that their faces are not identifiable.

a.     In order to use an identifiable picture of a child under 18, permission (link to photo waiver) from a parent is required.

b.     Temple Sinai will not post their location, or any other personal information about them.

3.     We will IMMEDIATELY REMOVE any photo upon request. If you see a photo that includes you or your child and would like it removed from the site, please call the Temple Sinai Office at 802-862-5125 or send written notification to adminstrator@templesinaivt.org with the details.

4.     For any images to be used outside Temple-produced communication channels, signed photo waiver forms will be required.

5.     We don't put names as captions with photos (except for rabbi/staff or other adult members who have given expressed written consent)

6.     We will gladly provide credit for who took a particular photo if desired by the photographer, and we will honor any copyright restrictions.

7.     Temple Sinai will not knowingly post anything that, in our opinion, would be embarrassing, objectionable or hurtful to anyone in the photo or represent them in a negative or false light.

8.     Temple Sinai will not intrude into anyone's solitude, seclusion or private property without permission.

Guidelines for Photographers

1.     When taking photos of adults please let people know you are taking a photo and indicate that they do not have to be part of it.

2.     When taking photos of children under 18 you must either take their photo in a manner that does not show their faces OR have their parents sign photo release forms available here (link release form).

3.     Photos of people engaged in activities are preferred for most media.  For example, committee members filling bags with food is preferable to committee members standing in a row.  This helps us show the Congregation as vibrant and active.

4.     Please note that different media require different size photos.  If you are responsible for posting, please refer to the photo size cheat sheet here (link to cheat sheet).

5.     When posting photos please do not identify the individuals in the photo without their permission.

6.     If you are the photographer and would like credit, please let the communication committee  (link) know.

7.     Any photos you take at Temple Sinai are not for use outside the Temple’s media channels without express permission of the Vice President for Marketing and Communications and the individuals in the photographs.

8.     Please be sure to respect the solitude, privacy and seclusion of all.
