Sabbath Queen Film Screening and Discussion
Sunday, April 12
2pm
Film House at Main Street Landing
60 Lake St, Burlinggton
Filmed over 21 years, Sabbath Queen follows Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie, heir to 38 generations of Orthodox rabbis, as he wrestles with his religious legacy and forges a radically new path. Becoming a drag performer, queer father, and founder of the experimental congregation Lab/Shul, he reimagines Jewish ritual, challenges patriarchy and supremacy, and advocates for interfaith love and peace— asking what Jewish survival means in a rapidly changing 21st century.
The event is being co-hosted by Ohavi Zedek, Temple Sinai, UVM Hillel, and UVM Jewish Studies. The co-sponsors supporting the event are listed in the event flyer attached.
Sabbath Queen is an hour and 45 minutes long. There will be a short break, and the forum discussion will begin at 5:00pm. Here are the forum discussion participants:
Cooper Hartog, UVM Student
