James Scott Glazier, Rabbi

Rabbi James Glazier was raised in Newton Highlands Massachusetts and attended Newton Public Schools. He graduated, Cum Laude, from Boston College in 1974 with a triple major: Secondary Education, History and Spanish. In 1979 Rabbi was ordained at the Hebrew Union College-JIR in Cincinnati with a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters. In 1981, after serving two years as Assistant Rabbi at Temple Emanuel in Birmingham, Alabama, Rabbi Glazier was elected spiritual leader of Temple Sinai. In 2004 he was awarded a Doctor of Divinity from the Hebrew Union College-JIR in New York City. Rabbi Glazier has served on numerous community boards: Trustee on the Board of Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, Trustee on the Board of Burlington’s YMCA, a member of the Medical Center’s Human Research Committee, Chair of the Russian Resettlement Committee and Board Member of the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger. Rabbi Glazier is married to Margaret Glazier and they are blessed with five children.

Mark Leopold, Cantorial Soloist

Mark Leopold is a native of Burlington Vermont. He has been serving as cantorial soloist since the founding of Temple Sinai in 1966. He is the youngest son of charter members Jules and Gertrude Leopold, both of blessed memory. Mark has taught in the Temple religious school and served as chair of the spiritual committee and served on the board. Mark tutors B’nai mitzvot students. Mark attended Burlington schools and the University of Vermont. By day Mark is a computer programmer working for a global manufacturing company with headquarters in Switzerland. Mark is the father of 5 children and has 2 grand children; he resides in Burlington with his wife Deborah Leopold.

 

Judy Alexander, Religious School Director

Judy AlexanderDirector Judy Alexander also teaches 7th grade Hebrew.Judy has her Master’s degree in Elementary Education and Curriculum and Development.Before coming to Temple Sinai in 1998, Judy taught Hebrew school at Israel Congregation in Manchester, VT.Judy has 2 children who were confirmed here at Temple Sinai and 3 grown stepsons.She tutors students for their B’nai Mitzvot, sings in our Shabbat and High Holiday choir, and enjoys playing Mah Jongg, reading, studying guitar and writing plays.Judy is married to the choir director, Bruce Chalmer

 

 

Craig H, Temple Administrator

Craig is our Administrator and Editor of the Shofar. Craig handles everything from processing payments to managing our communications through our online weekly email to our printed newsletter as well as the website. Craig has a Bachelors degree in Advertising and is currently woring on his MBA through Champlain College. He has over ten years experience in sales and marketing. Craig and his wife Barbara have a beautiful daughter named Natalya. Craig enjoys photography, scuba diving (warm water) and gadgets.

 

 

Bruce Chalmer, Choir Director

Bruce ChalmerBruce Chalmer has been Choir Director at Temple Sinai since 2005, leading the choir for High Holidays, selected Shabbat evening services, and special events. Having been a ba'al tefilah (lay service leader) in Montpelier for many years before coming to Temple Sinai, Bruce brings a deep appreciation of the meaning and structure of the synagogue service to his work as choir director.
